Demonstrates Next Generation Filtration Efficiency of Viruses, Bacteria, VOCs and Micro Particulates (3000x More Efficient Than HEPA Standards)

Wakefield, Mass. – April 28, 2020 – Focused on the research, development, and commercialization of advanced air technologies, Celios Corporation is releasing broad, independent validation of its air purification technology via multiple studies conducted by Blue Heaven Technologies, Nelson Labs and Intertek. Celios’ G200 Advanced Air Purifier has demonstrated unmatched performance capturing ultrafine airborne particles. The independent testing at leading laboratories confirmed the portable unit’s filtration technology is up to 3,000 times more efficient than HEPA standards, and can filter particles down to 10 nanometers in size. Celios expects to launch its G200 within weeks.

Particulate Filtration Performance Testing

Celios put its G200 filter through the rigorous EN1822-5 test standard, demonstrating its filters allow no air by-pass and ensuring the air coming out of the filter cartridges is completely filtered. This standard evaluates a filter’s efficiency in capturing particles between 20 nm – 300 nm in size, including the most dangerous and abundant ultrafine particles. These microscopic pollutants are small enough to penetrate through the lungs into the bloodstream and collect in tissues and organs. Leading filtration laboratory Blue Heaven Technologies performed the tests demonstrating that the Celios G200 filters can achieve 99.99999% filtration efficiency in the ultrafine particle size range. This result is 3,000 times more efficient than HEPA standards (99.97% at 300 nm).

Virus and Bacteria Removal Efficiency

Beyond demonstrating the ability to remove particles that are smaller than bacteria and viruses, Celios filters were also evaluated via Virus and Bacterial Efficiency (VFE/ BFE) removal tests by reputable 3rd party laboratory Nelson Labs. Testing for virus filtration efficiency was performed with PhiX174 bacteriophage, one of the smallest known viruses (25 nm - 27 nm in size). The virus was aerosolized into airborne droplets and delivered across the G200 filter. Celios filters captured over 99.99999% of the aerosolized viral load. The bacteria filtration efficiency (BFE) was conducted in a similar fashion, using Staphylococcus aureus. The BFE test showed that the G200 filter can remove more than 99.99999% of the challenged bacterial aerosol.

VOC Removal Testing

The Celios G200 uses an oversized bulk granular activated carbon filter (compared to thin single-layer sheets used by many competitors) to maximize both surface area and residence time of air passing through it, resulting in extreme efficiency in removing common chemical airborne contaminates. Leading 3rd party test facility Intertek performed volatile organic compound (VOC) reduction testing (ISO 16000-3, ISO 16000-6 referencing NRCC-54013) using three VOCs representative of what are found in homes: toluene, D-limonene, and formaldehyde. After 8 hours of testing the G200 removed 99% of toluene, 99% of D-limonene, and 71% of formaldehyde.

“We set out to find a better, far more efficient way to truly clean the air you breathe,” said Brian Packard, CEO, Celios. “We are exceedingly pleased by the performance results reported by independent experts at these world-class labs. In these interesting times, savvy consumers recognize the importance of breathing pure, clean air, and they know that not all air purifiers are created the same. We have worked diligently for years to be able to bring this next generation portable filtration technology to the market, and are thrilled to share our breakthrough at this time.”

“After 4+ years of research and testing, we know that the best approach for most room cleaning applications is a purely mechanical particulate filtration platform,” said Iyam Lynch, PhD, CTO, Celios. “Our unique design is lightweight, portable, and able to run up to 24 hours on a single charge. More importantly, the Blue Heaven, Nelsen and Intertek studies demonstrate that the G200 design provides world-class filtration of the air’s most dangerous particles.”
